Please see the post Drama!Drama!Drama! for the beginning of this series.
I have a confession to make.
I am an old rock and roller guy who loves to listen to movie soundtracks. How did this happen, you ask? Easy. Star Wars happened. I fell hook, line and sinker for Star Wars and while in High School, in music class we had a special speaker from the local philharmonic symphony. Boring, right? Until he played the soundtrack to Star Wars on the record player. It was absolutely fantastic. He went further to explain that Star Wars was classical music. Music outside of Rock and Roll was called Disco, and I didn’t do disco. Could there be something else out there? I have spent the rest of my life discovering this other kind of music.
I heard on the radio today about a preacher talking about recovering the arts, and his segment was on theater and movies, then about music. He asked the question when was the last time you ever went to see a movie that didn’t have a soundtrack? He’s right, even silent movies had soundtracks!
So why not in church plays????
There are plenty of websites devoted to this kind of music (production music, if you Google it) and here are a few. used in the right places, it can really add texture, power and polish to your production.
Here is an example of how a soundtrack passage can make a video pop.
Where I have purchased licensed music, and some where I will in the future. Most are available for immediate digital download.
Add some flash and dazzle to your sound to accentuate your message.

i totally agreed. we just finished a major production (church play) and for this time around (it will be a yearly thing) we were snagging music from prince of egypt (that has one of the best themes) and schindler’s list and a few others. we had original music too. but there was such a difference between the no music talking scenes and the more dramatic musical scenes. hopefully next year we will have some sort of music for the whole thing.

Hello Eyesandwings!
What great news. I would love to hear more about your production! And yes, I love the music of Prince of Egypt as well. It is all about the creativity one can find through The Inspiritation of the HOLY SPIRIT.
If you have anything on line, let me know, or otherwise email me. I love to network ideas on church drama!
